Industry Connect 2025: A Star-Studded Celebration of Cinema at Garden City University, Bangalore
Bangalore | July 10, 2025 — Garden City University played host to a dazzling celebration of creativity and cinema on July 8, 2025, as it welcomed filmmakers, students, and media professionals for Industry Connect 2025. The event brought together celebrated names from the Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi film industries, all united in their mission to inspire and mentor the next generation of talent.
The evening’s centerpiece was the felicitation ceremony, which honored influential contributors to Indian cinema. Among those recognized was JJ Sharma, filmmaker, educator, and founder of Filmkar.com—India’s first dedicated film-tech platform, now marking one year since its national launch.
“Filmkar.com was inspired by the challenges I saw young creatives face,” said Sharma. “We needed a space built for the film industry—focused, transparent, and accessible.”

Filmkar.com: A Game-Changer for India’s Creative Workforce
Launched across India on April 9, 2024, on the eve of the Ugadi festival, Filmkar.com has rapidly become a go-to digital space for aspiring actors, directors, technicians, casting professionals, and production houses. The idea was born in 2019, shaped by Sharma’s years of experience in the Kannada film industry and his work as a trainer and entrepreneur.
Before Filmkar, Sharma founded Macwin Studio & Cine Academy in 2014 and launched Cinemandi.com in 2017—both of which laid the groundwork for his vision of a more tech-driven, connected film ecosystem.
Building a Digital Ecosystem from the Ground Up
Following a successful pilot in 2021 and a trial phase across Karnataka in 2023, Filmkar.com gained recognition and support from top names in the industry, including P. Sheshadri, V. Manohar, Jayamala, and B. Suresh. Their endorsements helped propel the platform to a nationwide launch.
Filmkar.com now addresses two key gaps in the industry:
- Verified Opportunities: Artists can create detailed portfolios and connect with legitimate, vetted projects.
- Smart Casting Tools: Filmmakers and casting directors can filter candidates by age, height, language, and more—making discovery faster and more accurate.

More Than a Platform—A Creative Movement
Unlike general social media, Filmkar.com is a purpose-built network that supports long-term collaboration across all departments of filmmaking—from actors and cinematographers to editors and agencies.
“Talent is everywhere, but opportunity often isn’t,” Sharma noted. “Filmkar is here to change that—by connecting the two.”
What Lies Ahead
Looking forward, Filmkar.com is preparing to introduce groundbreaking features, including:
- AI-Based Post-Production Cloud Infrastructure
- Live Casting Call & Real-Time Audition Tools
- Expanded Industry Collaboration Network
Most notably, the platform is now working on integrating Artificial Intelligence into both Filmkar.com and the broader film production process — aiming to enhance casting precision, automate editing workflows, and optimize production pipelines.
“Artificial Intelligence is the future of filmmaking,” Sharma noted. “At Filmkar, we’re committed to leading that transition—using technology not to replace talent, but to empower it.”
“This is just the beginning,” Sharma said. “We’re building a future where every creator has a platform—and a path.”
