Youth Magnate Tanuj Samaddar All Set to Receive the Coveted KARMAVEER CHAKRA Award
Tanuj Samaddar, an Indian artist, youth activist, and environmental advocate, is making waves as he prepares to receive the prestigious Karmaveer Chakra Award, a United Nations-backed honor recognizing his exceptional dedication to social service and developmental change. The Karmaveer Chakra, awarded by iCONGO in partnership with the United Nations, is a civilian accolade celebrating individuals who break new ground and inspire a lasting impact in their communities.
Born in Rangia, Assam, Tanuj’s passion for art blossomed early, starting at just 1½ years old. His journey of combining art with activism has earned him numerous accolades, including India’s highest civilian award for non-adults and the Kentucky Colonel Commission from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Notably, he also holds the title of Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (UK), positioning him among global changemakers.
With over 35 international and 75 national awards, Tanuj’s contributions span across visual arts, mental health awareness, youth activism, and environmental advocacy. As a council member of the Global Youth Advisory Council in Zimbabwe, he pioneered projects like YOUTHCONNECT and ART4SERENITY. These initiatives leveraged art to raise awareness on youth mental health, offering platforms for connection and self-expression through art and dialogue. His video series “Metamorphosis: ART4SERENITY,” in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, gained widespread engagement, resonating with youth globally.
Tanuj has also championed various social causes, from fundraising for gender justice and youth welfare to supporting education and environmental preservation. His dedication extends to the Clippers Child Council of India and the World Organization for Sustainability and Leadership in California, where he advocates for youth rights and environmental solutions. Recently, he co-authored a research paper on reducing food wastage in agricultural supply chains as part of an International Youth Environmental Advocacy Fellowship in Canada, emphasizing his commitment to sustainable development.
Speaking about his journey, Tanuj shared, “I’m extremely honored to receive this award. It bolsters my commitment to my passion, and I am grateful for everyone who supported me when times were bleak.” Currently, he is also nominated for the ‘Assam Gaurav Award, further affirming his role as an inspiring youth leader. Tanuj’s story serves as a reminder of the profound impact that one individual’s vision, courage, and resilience can have on society.
