Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation: A Service Movement for the Holistic Wellbeing of Society

Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation is a Pune-based Section 8 not-for-profit organisation established on 18 June 2023 with the mission of providing healthcare, education, guidance, social support and development opportunities to underprivileged, vulnerable and ordinary citizens.
The initiative was led by the Foundation’s Director and founding member, Mr Yogesh Ambadas Deshpande, with the involvement of Mr Dhananjay Joshi, Mr S. R. Kulkarni, dedicated volunteers and service-oriented associates. What began as a focused healthcare initiative is now evolving into a wider movement for community service and national development.
The Inspiration Behind “Sudarshan”
The name “Sudarshan” draws inspiration from Pujaniya Kuppahalli Sitaramayya Sudarshanji, the fifth Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, whose life reflected patriotism, discipline, social commitment and selfless service.
The name also carries a deeper symbolic meaning. In Indian tradition, the Sudarshan Chakra represents the power to eliminate ignorance, injustice, negativity and destructive tendencies while restoring truth, righteousness, balance and public welfare.
In the same spirit, Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation seeks to address illness, suffering, ignorance, inequality and helplessness and contribute towards building a healthier, educated, positive and self-reliant society.
The Beginning of the Foundation
The organisation began its journey as Sudarshan Cancer Hospital and Research Foundation. Its initial work focused on cancer awareness, early diagnosis, free OPD services, medical screening, counselling, specialist referrals, treatment guidance and financial assistance for patients in need.
The Foundation was not established merely to build a hospital. Its larger purpose was to create a dependable support system for patients and their families—from awareness and screening to diagnosis, documentation, specialist consultation, hospital referral, treatment support, counselling and rehabilitation.
Work Undertaken So Far
According to the Foundation’s available activity records for 2023–2025:
- More than 400 free health screenings were conducted for people in need.
- More than 50 patients received financial assistance or support in accessing treatment-related aid.
- Over 1,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries were reached through health camps, OPD services, counselling, medical guidance and awareness initiatives.
- Free OPD and primary medical guidance were provided to patients in need.
- Patients were connected with specialist doctors, second opinions and appropriate hospitals.
- Awareness activities were conducted on cancer symptoms, risk factors, prevention and early diagnosis.
- Women’s health and screening initiatives were organised.
- Patients and their families received guidance regarding documentation, treatment procedures, referrals and available assistance schemes.
- The Foundation participated in blood-donation awareness, thalassaemia-related initiatives and other community-service activities.
Expansion into Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation
Recognising changing social needs and the importance of broader community service, the scope of the organisation was expanded. It was therefore renamed Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation, giving it a wider and more nationally relevant identity.
The Foundation’s work is no longer limited to cancer or any single disease. Its expanded vision brings together healthcare, education, research, skill development, social security, women and child welfare, rural development, environmental protection and humanitarian assistance.
What the Foundation Currently Does
1. Health Awareness
The Foundation promotes awareness regarding cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases. It educates communities about symptoms, risk factors, prevention, healthy lifestyles and the importance of timely medical screening.
2. Preventive Health Screening
Community-based health camps are organised in residential areas, institutions and workplaces to identify health risks and possible illnesses at an early stage.
3. Medical Guidance and Referral
Individuals requiring further examination are connected with qualified doctors, diagnostic laboratories, specialist centres and appropriate hospitals.
4. Patient Assistance and Treatment Navigation
Patients are supported through specialist opinions, treatment guidance, documentation assistance, financial-support coordination and follow-up throughout the treatment process.
5. Government Health Schemes and Social-Security Awareness
The Foundation provides information and documentation guidance regarding schemes such as:
- Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
- Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana
- Employees’ State Insurance
- Other government health and social-welfare schemes
The Foundation does not undertake any regulated insurance business. Its role is limited to lawful awareness, facilitation, documentation support and beneficiary guidance.
6. Women, Children and Family Welfare
The Foundation aims to support women’s health, nutrition, empowerment and livelihood development, along with child nutrition, family welfare and skill-based self-employment programmes.
Sudarshan Screening Mission
The Sudarshan Screening Mission is the Foundation’s proposed expansion-stage community healthcare initiative.
Early Diagnosis (Mass Screening) – Detect – Treat – Cure
Rather than limiting its work to one-time health camps, the Mission aims to create a continuous healthcare pathway comprising:
- Community awareness and beneficiary registration
- General and risk-based health screening
- Clinical review by qualified medical professionals
- Referral for confirmatory diagnosis
- Connection with hospitals and treatment facilities
- Guidance regarding government schemes and financial assistance
- Treatment follow-up and patient navigation
- Counselling and rehabilitation
- Secure, consent-based digital health records
The Foundation intends to develop this Mission through partnerships with government bodies, municipal corporations, CSR organisations, hospitals, doctors, diagnostic laboratories, educational institutions and social-service organisations.
Expanded Objectives of the Foundation
Healthcare and Medical Services
The Foundation aims to develop and support hospitals, health centres, diagnostic facilities, research centres, day-care services, home healthcare, telemedicine, mobile health vans, rehabilitation services, palliative care, blood banks and patient-assistance centres.
Education and Skill Development
Its objectives include promoting schools, medical and nursing education, public-health training, allied health sciences, digital education, competitive-examination guidance, scholarships and employment-oriented skill-development programmes.
Research and Technology
The Foundation aims to promote healthcare research, social research, epidemiology, disease registries, public-health data analysis, artificial intelligence in healthcare, digital platforms, helplines and non-profit healthcare innovation and start-up support.
Women, Children, Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities
The Foundation seeks to develop programmes for women’s empowerment, self-employment, child health and nutrition, senior-citizen support and the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Rural and Agricultural Development
Proposed activities include farmer training, organic farming, water conservation, animal husbandry, support for Farmer Producer Organisations and improved access to healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities in rural communities.
Environment and Animal Welfare
The Foundation’s objectives include tree plantation, waste management, water conservation, pollution control, biodiversity protection, renewable energy, veterinary health camps and animal-welfare initiatives.
Disaster Management and Humanitarian Relief
During floods, earthquakes, droughts and other emergencies, the Foundation aims to mobilise food, medicines, healthcare services, essential supplies and rehabilitation assistance.
Our Working Approach
Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation follows a partnership-based, professionally managed and transparent approach. It seeks to bring together Central and State Government departments, municipal corporations, health authorities, CSR organisations, industries, doctors, hospitals, laboratories, research institutions, educational bodies, social organisations and volunteers on a responsible platform.
The Foundation intends to ensure that every project has clearly defined beneficiary criteria, privacy protection, responsible fund utilisation, proper documentation, measurable outcomes and transparent reporting.
Future Direction
Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation aspires to create a nationwide network of members, doctors, professionals, volunteers, donors, institutions and service-oriented organisations.
Through networks at the national, state, district, taluka, city and village levels, the Foundation aims to ensure that healthcare and social-development services reach the last person in society.
Sudarshan Bharat Seva Foundation is not merely an organisation. It is a growing service movement committed to the holistic wellbeing of individuals, families, communities and the nation.
Guided by the spirit of “little for oneself and everything for society,” the Foundation’s fundamental purpose is to help build a healthier, educated, self-reliant, compassionate and empowered Bharat.
